Salt firing is a method of finishing ceramics. When fired to high temperatures, salt is added to the atmosphere within the kiln at the heat vaporizes the salt, allowing it to react to the clay’s surface. The technique produces uniquely earthy results, typically characterized by warm brown colors where before there had been bare clay.

Landscapes is a series of sculptural ceramic objects inspired by and replicating natural landscapes. All salt-fired, these objects are a result of my own emotional connections to places that have held special significance to me, from the plains of the Midwest to the mountains of Appalachia and Alaska.

Vulnerabilities is an ongoing series of hand embroidered self-portraits exploring personal vulnerabilities. By confronting them through the meditative motions of embroidery, I hope to work towards overcoming them.
